Shaping the future of European Short Sea Shipping: Autonomous & Automated technologies
The maritime industry is a constantly evolving business sector, which continuously tries to maintain its competitiveness by embracing innovation, which is widely recognized as a determinant of success. Disruptive technologies that enable automation and autonomy have been recently receiving a lot of attention, in part, due to their strong potential to revolutionise the landscape of the maritime industry and make it more efficient and sustainable. This session aims to highlight how autonomous and automated technologies can stimulate the modernization of intra-European waterborne transport and increase the modal shift from land-based transportation to Short Sea Shipping.
MOSES project organised a session entitled ‘Shaping the future of European Short Sea Shipping: Autonomous & Automated technologies‘ in the context of the Connecting EU insights, on 28th of April 2021 at 12:00-13:30 CEST.
Representatives from the MOSES’ sister projects, AEGIS and AUTOSHIP participated in this interesting session to express their insights on the future of Short Sea Shipping in the EU.
In addition, a representative from Fundacion Valenciaport made a presentation on the potential of Short Sea Shipping in the Mediterranean basin and a representative from EMSA highlighted the automation in Short Sea Shipping from a safety perspective.
